The Story… They met at Janet’s farewell party.
“It’s funny because we had never met or crossed paths!” says Janet. “My friend happened to be roommates with Daniel and decided to bring him along to my party. He was definitely friendly, and especially flirty… but I thought nothing of it as I was just focused on starting my life after graduation.”
But in Daniel’s words, “I knew I was falling for her when I first saw her.”
“My roommate invited me to a farewell party, and I decided to join him since I had no plans that night… When I walked in, the room was packed, but there was one person that immediately caught my attention: Janet. There was something about her that made me want to talk to her. And I did. I introduced myself and, at the time, I had no idea that the party was in her honor. I chatted with her, I sat next to her, and I found myself wanting to stay with her.”
Even though they parted ways that evening, it was really just the beginning.
“Later that Summer, thinking I had nothing to lose, I reached out to her. And before I knew it, things fell in place.
The Wedding… Daniel and Janet were married at the iconic Boone Hall Plantation in Charleston, South Carolina. (The Nicholas Cage fan-girl in this photographer was thrilled because Boone Hall is where “The Notebook” was filmed!) They signed their vows to each other in front of their favorite people under draping Spanish moss, right alongside the Avenue of Oaks. Daniel and Janet are deaf, which meant it was a privilege to get to see the beauty of two languages on their wedding day: American and Spanish Sign Language.
After their flawless ceremony (planned by the talented Purple Dress Events!), guests were invited to a gorgeous river-side reception at Cottage on the Creek.
Out of the thousand images in their final gallery, we had to narrow it down to just one hundred photos for this blog post… it was so hard to pick a few favorites! I hope that Janet and Daniel (and their beautiful friends and family!) inspire you as much as they have inspired me!
From Janet: “One of the highlights of our wedding day was definitely the first look… We both could not stop crying, my goodness!”
This is Janet and her incredible twin sister, Jennifer! In Jennifer’s matron-of-honor speech, she said, “I am her ears, but she is my heart.”
These two have the most incredible creative business together. (You have to check it out here!) They love connecting through communication, the thing that first connected them. And now they work together to share their message of love with their voices, their hands, and spelled out on lovely little things like customized mugs, necklaces, and hand-stamped rings.
Because mamas are important…
The sweetest little flower girl!“Another favorite moment was saying our vows and ‘I do!’ It was as if we witnessed one another becoming a brand new person! We will never forget that, ever!”
I loved that Daniel and Janet had a paint ceremony!
I love this shot from my talented second shooter, Kaitlin!
So. Much. Joy!
Daniel and Janet’s best piece of newlywed marriage advice: “First, always remember that men and women communicate differently, and that it is okay to give and receive love differently. And second, remember the 3 C’s: commitment, communicate, and compromise.”
Boone Hall was so good to us.
Janet signed part of their first dance song to Daniel as a surprise!
….and then Daniel’s sweet mama signed him a song too!
